Chennai, parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry to receive heavy rainfall, waterlogging alert issued

Chennai/IBNS: Chennai and several parts of Tamil Nadu and adjoining Puducherry is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on Tuesday leading to waterlogging, the Indian Meteorological Department has altered.

The city of Chennai and suburbs in Chengalpet, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts have witnessed intermittent rain since Saturday morning.

Saturday night received the heaviest rains in recent years after the 2015 floods, which led to waterlogging in several areas.

The weather office has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall today in 14 Tamil Nadu districts, including Chennai, Vellore, Nagapattinam, Karaikal, among others.

The Chennai Corporation has set up pump sets in 500 locations to drain out the logged water.

Relief camps have been set up providing food, shelter and medical care acorss the city.

So far, 2,02,350 people in affected areas have been provided food since Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
