Chhattisgarh: Maoists attack BJP MLA's convoy, five feared killed

Dantewada, Apr 9 (IBNS): Suspected Maoists attacked a convoy, which was carrying Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Bheema Mandavi, in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada area on Tuesday, media reports said.

According to some media reports, five people were killed in the incident.

Bheema Mandavi, the BJP legislator from Dantewada,  was reportedly present in the convoy when the attack took place.

Sources from the police told Hindustan Times that the carcade of Bheema Mandavi, the MLA of Bijapur constituency, was attacked with IEDs. An SUV was blown off by the Maoists in the attack. 

“We have reports that five jawans were killed and we are still waiting for any information about MLA because there is no mobile connection and firing is going on,” Director General of Police , DM Awasthi told the newspaper.

The attack took place just two days before the country votes in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls.

Chhattisgarh will vote in three phases-Apr 11,  18 and 23.

Polling will be held in seven phases.

The last phase of polling will be held on May 19.

Counting of votes will take place on May 23.
