Citizenship Bill lapse in Rajya Sabha: Assam celebrates by bursting crackers, distributing sweets
Guwahati, Feb 13 (IBNS): After lapse of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 due to its non-passage in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, the members of All Assam Students Union (AASU) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) have started celebration by bursting crackers anddistributing sweets in Guwahati.
Hundreds of activists of the student organisation have gathered outside the Swahid Nyas, head office of AASU, in Guwahati and celebrated “Vijay Utsav”.
The AASU members burst fire crackers and danced to the beats of drums.
On the other hand, members and workers of AGP have snapped tie with the BJP over the Citizenship bill row.
The AGP workers also paid their tributes to the 855 martyrs of the Assam Movement by lighting earthen lamps at the party office in Guwahati.
AGP General Secretary Manoj Saikia said that, it is a victory of the people of Assam and North Eastern region following their fights against the Citizenship bill.
