New Delhi: A clash broke out between two groups of students in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) over allegedly eating non-vegetarian food on the occasion of Ram Navmi.

Both groups were making allegations and counter allegations against each other.

Sources told UNI over a dozen students of JNU were hurt during a violent clash between ABVP and Left student outfits that occurred at a hostel mess, allegedly over consumption of non-vegetarian food on the occasion of Ram Navmi.

Left student outfits claimed that ABVP students stopped residents inside JNU from having non-veg food, and also threatened the mess securities of the hostel.

However, ABVP students claimed that there was no issue about non-veg food.

They had a problem with the celebration of Ram Navami.

During the scuffle, several students got injured.

They were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The protesters blocked the main entrance of the campus and shouted slogans there.

"Around 5-6 students were injured in JNU. They have been shifted to Hospital. Now the situation is peaceful in the campus,"  Amit Goel, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-West Delhi, told UNI.
