CM Nitish Kumar faces trust vote today in Bihar Assembly

Patna, July 28 (IBNS): Politics in Bihar is all set to witness a crucial day as Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will face a trust vote in the Assembly on Friday.

Under the leadership of Kumar, Janata Dal (United) and Bharatiya Janata Party will go for the floor test in the Legislative Assembly to prove the needed majority.

The session of the Assembly will commence from 11 am.

The floor test is expected to be a formality as the JD(U)-BJP alliance has the simple majority to form  government.

While JD(U) has 71 seats, BJP is in possession of 53.

The minimum number of seats required to form the government is 122.

In 2015, the grand alliance led by JD(U), RJD and Congress shattered BJP's dream of capturing the political power in Bihar.

Lalu-led RJD, however, emerged as the largest party in the Assembly election 2015 with 80 seats under their belt.

The political crisis in Bihar occurred after JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar stepped down as the CM of the state on Wednesday. Kumar, who severed his ties with RJD over corruption issue, formed the new government with the support of the BJP on Thursday.

Along with Nitish, BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state.

Meanwhile, after a meeting with Bihar Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi last night, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said RJD being the largest political party in the Assembly, the former must give them the opportunity to form the government first.

The rift between Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad of RJD had reached a flashpoint over corruption issue when deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav and his father Lalu Yadav had ruled out resignation of Tejashwi over a CBI probe arguing that a fake case was filed against him.

Kumar became the CM of the state for sixth time.
