Court records statement of Sushil Modi on oath in defamation case against Rahul Gandhi
Patna, Apr 26 (UNI) A local court today recorded the statement of deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi on oath in a defamation case filed by him against Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Shashikant Rai recorded the statement of Mr Modi in the defamation case filed against Gandhi.
Besides it, Modi also produced a CD containing recording of Gandhi`s statement before the court through his counsel Arjun Kumar.
He also submitted an application through his counsel to the court praying for issuance of summon to Congress president as sufficient evidence was available for taking cognisance against him and also for issuing summon to him in the case. The counsel contended that the court should issue summon to Gandhi as he was not present in the court.
After the hearing on application, the court reserved its judgement.
As it is, Modi had filed a complaint petition in the court of chief judicial magistrate on April 18 this year. In the petition, Modi had pointed out that Mr Gandhi`s statement asking why all people with Modi surname were thieves. Congress president had made the statement while addressing an election meeting in Karnataka amount to defamation.
Modi in his statement made in the court on oath had said that Gandhi`s comment had caused damage to his prestige and dignity even as people had started suspecting him and ridiculing him after it.
