Court to hear Jaya's bail plea today
Jayalalithaa has been behind the bars in a Bangalore prison since Saturday as a trial court found her guilty in a corruption case.
The AIADMK chief is prisoner No 7402 in Bangalore’s Central Prison.
Jayalalithaa’s trial was transferred to Bangalore in 2003 to ensure that her party's influence in her home state would not influence the case. The case was filed in 1996 by her arch rival the DMK, sources said.
It was argued in the court that she had amassed property worth Rs. 66 crores - including 30 kg of gold, 12,000 saris and 2000 acres of land - despite not taking any salary as chief minister.
Tamil Nadu votes for its next government in 2016. Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK swept Tamil Nadu in the general election in May this year and is now the third-largest in Parliament.
