Kolkata/IBNS: With the biggest single-day spike of 2,282 infections, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in West Bengal has reached 44,769, including 17,204 active ones, 1,147 fatalities and 26,418 recoveries, the state health department said on Monday.

According to a bulletin issued by West Bengal Health and Family Welfare (WBHFW) department, in the last 24 hours, 35 more deaths were reported while a record number of 1,535 Covid-19 patients were discharged from different health facilities across the state, taking the recovery rate slightly up to 59.01 per cent from 58.56 per cent.

Officials said that state capital Kolkata and its adjoining district, North 24 Parganas, registered the highest number of fresh Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours-- 645 and 574 respectively, while Kolkata alone reported 16 more deaths in the last 24 hours.

West Bengal has tested 7,16,365 samples till date with 13,081 tests conducted in 54 testing facilities across the state in the last 24 hours, reports said.

Currently, 3,702 persons are kept in government quarantine centres and 31,329 people are under home surveillance in the state.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal government on Monday announced to enforce complete lockdown in the entire state on July 23, 25 and 29 in addition to the ongoing lockdown in broad-based containment zones as the state was suspecting that a community transmission of Covid-19 had begun in some parts of the state.
