'CPI-M surrendered itself to BJP to avoid facing consequences of corruption': Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata/IBNS: In an unsparing attack on the Left and the saffron camp, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said the CPI-M has surrendered itself to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) only to escape from facing the consequences of corruption.

"I feel ashamed of the CPI-M because they have surrendered themselves to the BJP to escape from going to jail over corruption charges," said Banerjee in an almost poll-speech in Bankura.

Banerjee, whose prime target of late remains the BJP and not the Left, on Wednesday reminded people of Bankura of the "violence" ushered by the CPI-M before 2011, the year when the Trinamool came to power.

"Have you forgotten the violence in Bankura a decade earlier? Now people are living here peacefully.

"Today CPI-M, Congress and BJP are working together to defeat the Trinamool Congress. CPI-M goons have turned the goons of BJP. They are the same people but just changed their colours," the Trinamool chief said in her trademark style.

At a time several Trinamool leaders are expressing dissent against their top brass, Banerjee has accused the BJP of attempting to poach the ruling party members.

"They (BJP) have a huge amount of money. They are offering Rs. 2 crore to Trinamool MLAs and asking to switch parties," she said.

Rebutting all the charges made by Banerjee, CPI-M MLA Sujan Chakraborty told IBNS, "The CM is a liar. She can't say anything better than lies. If CPI-M has done corruption then what did her government do for all these years? She should stop lying and start looking in the mirror."
