Jammu/UNI: The development plank finally paid to the Saffron Brigade and the Lotus bloomed in three border districts of Jammu region with BJP winning 35 seats out of total 42, Bahujan Samaj Party and the National Conference winning one each while the counting for rest of the Territorial Constituencies was in progress.

As per the official data provided by the Chief Electoral Office of Jammu and Kashmir, the Bhartiya Janata Party in the three border districts almost made a clean sweep by defeating its rivals like National Conference, Indian National Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party, Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party and others.

Moreover, the three border districts of Jammu region, Jammu, Samba and Kathua, having a maximum population of farmers’ community gave a huge mandate to the BJP despite ongoing agitation against the Farmers Acts.

Stalwart leaders, sitting Member Parliaments from Kathua-Udhampur Constituency, Dr Jitendra Singh, who is also, Union MoS, Union Ministers Anurag Thakur, Smriti Irani, National General Secretary and In-charge J&K Affairs, Tarun Chugh, Jammu-Poonch Constituency MP, Jugal Kishore Sharma, played a key role during campaigning vis-à-vis front runners in development of these border belts by making basic facilities available at doorsteps to the local populace.

In Jammu District, BJP has won eight seats out of total 14 Territorial Constituencies and National Conference bagged one.

Moreover, in Kathua district, out of total 14, BJP has won 13 and one seat is won by the BSP candidate from Nagri Territorial Constituency.

Similarly, in Samba district as well, it was a clean sweep for BJP except for one seat of Bari Brahmana Territorial Constituency won by the National Conference.

The counting on five Constituencies in Jammu district was still in progress.

Thakur, in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir DDC elections, on his arrival here on Tuesday evening, has stated, “democracy has bloomed J&K and the peoples' ballot has emerged mightier than the bullet! India’s flag and people will be the winners.”

He said, “I thank the people of J&K for choosing the ballot, for rejecting the boycott and reposing their faith in Indian democracy. I also extend my wishes to all the election officials who ensured a free and fair election.”

Thakur further said, “The BJP has emerged with a historic mandate, those who said we’d never get a single seat are not hiding for cover. We have not only received a decisive mandate and vote share across the region but also ensured democracy is established. Gupkar Gang said no one would wave the Indian flag; they have been rejected, today the people have not only held the Tiranga high but also voted for the lotus to blossom! Along with our supporters, we will appoint the Chairpersons and quickly begin the work of development and economic transformation.”

He expressed his firm commitment and said, "The BJP promised development, we will deliver on our promise and vision. We will leave no stone unturned to transform this region into an investment hub, a hot spot for tourism to flourish and expand regional trade. A new era of development, democracy and decisive leadership will begin in J&K.”

Meanwhile, BJP national general Secretary Tarun Chugh said that the results of J&K elections marked a big victory for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of development and progress for the people.

“Overwhelming turnout of voters is also indicative of the fact that people have rejected terrorism and are looking for a new chapter in J&K,” he said and added that BJP had a big number of victorious independents on its side as well.

He said a new chapter has opened in J&K and it would go a long way to help people who remained deprived of development programmes.
