Deepfake videos can create lots of problems: Narendra Modi

| @indiablooms | Nov 17, 2023, at 10:11 pm

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday raised concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence and said that creating deepfake videos is a "big issue" for society.

Addressing journalists at BJP's Diwali celebration programme here, he said "The looming threat of Deepfake has become a great concern and can create a lot of problems."

Modi said he recently saw a video where he was singing a garba song.

"I recently saw a video in which I was seen singing a Garba song. There are many other such videos online," he said.

The PM said that he has asked the ChatGpt team to flag deepfakes and issue a warning when such videos are circulated on the internet.

"During the times of Artificial Intelligence, it is important that technology should be used responsibly," he added.

Modi's remarks come after deepfake videos - with morphed faces of actor Rashmika Mandanna, Katrina Kaif and Kajol, surfaced on social media, evoking huge outrage.

He also urged members of the media to educate the public about the adverse consequences associated with artificial intelligence.

The Prime Minister also said that 'vocal for local' has found people's support and due to this initiative over Rs 4000 crore business has been done in this festive season.

He added that due to social media, our Indian festivals now become global festivals, which is a matter of great happiness.

During his address, Modi also raised concerns over the death of journalists in the Covid period.

He asked the media outlets to develop a 'health care mechanism' for journalists who are above 40 years of age.

The PM further added that India's achievements during the Covid-19 pandemic created confidence among the people that the country is not going to stop now.
