Delhi court raps police for filing Kanhaiya Kumar chargesheet without govt approval

New Delhi, Jan 19 (IBNS): A Delhi court today criticised the police for filing a chargesheet against former Jawaharlal Nehru University students' union leader Kahnaiya Kumar without acquiring the requisite approval from the Delhi government, reports said.

"You don't have approval from the legal department, why did you file chargesheet without approval?" NDTV quoted the court as telling the police.

When the police promised to get the state government's approval in 10 days, the court granted then time till February 6.

The 1,200-page chargesheet is against Kumar for his alleged anti-national activities at the university in February 2016. Apart from Kumar, Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya and seven students from Jammu and Kashmi have been named in the chargesheet.

"When the magisterial inquiry was done, it was concluded that no JNU student was involved. I want to say, the police has filed a chargesheet after three years. We thank them," Kanhaiya Kumar told NDTV.
