Delhi HC summons Ramdev over Patanjali's Coronil

New Delhi/IBNS: The Delhi High Court has issued summons to controversial yoga guru Ramdev over Patanjali's Coronil which he had claimed to be a cure to COVID-19, media reports said.

The summons have been issued on a suit by Delhi Medical Association (DMA).

The DMA has stated that Ramdev's company Patanjali is spreading false information regarding Coronil claiming it as the cure to the deadly virus.

Significantly, Coronil was promoted by Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) said it had not reviewed the effectiveness of any traditional medicine in treating COVID-19.

Earlier, Ramdev had angered doctors by stating people's death due to COVID-19 occurred due to Allopathy.

Ramdev, who is the face of India's one of the largest consumer goods and alternative medicine empires Patanjali, said at a recent event, "Lakhs of people have lost their lives due to allopathic medicines, their number being far greater than those who died because they could not get treatment or oxygen."

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) had lambasted Ramdev over his statement on allopathy and demanded the Union Health Ministry to either prosecute him under Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 or accept his accusations and dissolve the modern medical facility.

Facing the anger, the yoga guru on Sunday withdrew his comments.
