DMK, allies observe fast in support of farmers' protests
Chennai/UNI: The Tamil Nadu Opposition DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance on Friday staged a day long fast in support of the agitating farmers in Delhi demanding revoking of the three farm laws enacted by the Centre.
In Chennai, the fast was held in front of Valluvar Kottam.
DMK President MK Stalin led the fast in which leaders of alliance parties, including the Congress, CPI, CPI(M), MDMK, IJK, VCK and others participated.
The fast was being held despite police denying permission citing the COVID-19 pandemic and prohibitory orders in force.
However, the DMK defied the ban and went ahead with the fast, in which scores of DMK cadres and workers of alliance parties took part.
Speaking on the occasion, Stalin cited the agitation by the farmers in the National Capital that continued for more than 20 days and urged the Centre to heed to their
demands and withdraw the three laws.
Alleging that the Centre has brought these laws to support the Corporates, he said the DMK would continue with the agitation till the three laws were repealed.
He said the Centre has passed the three laws in a hasty manner without holding discussions with the farmers and the farmers organisations.
