DMK president M.K. Stalin proposes Rahul Gandhi's name as next PM
Chennai, Dec 16 (IBNS): Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M.K. Stalin on Sunday proposed the name of Congress president Rahul Gandhi as the next Prime Minister of India.
Quoting Stalin, Tamil Nadu Pradesh Mahila Congress tweeted: "I propose we'll install a new Prime Minister in Delhi. I propose the candidature of Rahul Gandhi from Tamil Nadu."
He also described the PM Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre as 'fascist'.
"He has got the ability to defeat the fascist Modi government," he said.
The Lok Sabha polls are scheduled to be held next year.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday unveiled the statue of late DMK leader M. Karunanidhi at Anna Arivalayam in Chennai.
Karunanidhi's statue has been installed beside the statue of DMK founder C.N. Annadurai.
Several key leaders of the nation, including Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Puducherry chief minister V. Narayanasamy, took part in the event.
The Congress party tweeted: "UPA Chairperson Smt Sonia Gandhi unveils the statue of Late Shri M. Karunanidhi at Anna Arivalayam, Chennai. Also in attendance were CP @RahulGandhi, DMK President @mkstalin, CMs of Kerala @vijayanpinarayi, Andhra Pradesh @ncbn & Puducherry @VNarayanasami #VanakkamSoniaGandhi."
Karunanidhi, a five-time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu who had switched to politics from screenwriting, died on August 7 aged of 94.
