ED raids Robert Vadra offices in Delhi, Bangalore

New Delhi, Dec 7 (IBNS): Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Friday conducted raids at the Delhi and Bangalore offices of Robert Vadra's company, Sunlight Hospitality in cases of financial assets held abroad and defence deal commissions, media reports said.

Vadra being Congress president Rahul Gandhi's brother-in-law, the party reacted sharply to the development.

"Sure shot defeat in 5 States unnerves Modi Govt to again use the old tools - unleash revenge & vendetta against Mr. Robert Vadra to divert the narrative," Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted. "Such cowardice & intimidation will not subjugate either the Congress Party or the will of people. Satyamev Jayate!"

“They have locked our people of Skylight hospitality inside, they are not allowing anyone to go inside. Is this Nazism? Is this a jail?” Suman Jyoti Khaitan, a lawyer representing Vadra, told reporters outside one of the locations that the ED raided.

"I have submitted full documents twice to the ED office. Last time, I went there on December 5, with a 600-page document. Now they are asking him [Vadra] to be present in person. What do they want from him in person? Do they want to see his face? These officials are trying to manufacture and plant false evidence inside the office. They are not allowing us to enter, this is not the rule of law," India Today quoted Vaadra's lawyer as saying.

On November 30, the ED had summoned Vadra in the Bikaner land grab case.

“He had last been summoned on November 20. But he did not appear and instead sent his legal representative with documents. We have told him that we want to examine him personally and so he must appear in person,” The Indian Express had quoted an ED official.

This case concerns a number of companies associated with Vadra that were allegedly involved in fraudulent land deals. The ED is carrying out the probe based on FIRs filed by Rajasthan police in 2015.
