New Delhi/Srinagar, Aug 12 (IBNS): The Union Home Ministry on Monday claimed Eid prayers were offered peacefully by people belonging to the Muslim community in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir which no longer enjoys the special status.

Spokesperson of Ministry of Home Affairs tweeted, "Info from various districts in #JammuAndKashmir #Eid prayers offered peacefully in all local mosques of Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Bandipore, without any untoward incident. Jamia masjid old town Baramulla witnessed approx 10,000 people offering prayers."

In another tweet, the spokesperson said, "People come out in good numbers to pray on #Eid in #JammuAndKashmir Prayers concluded at prominent mosques in Srinagar and Shopian. Over 4500 offer prayers at Eidgah Jammu."

The Eid is getting celebrated a week after the central government withdrew Jammu and Kashmir's special status by scrapping Articles 370 and 35A. The Narendra Modi government also took away the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated it into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir with an assembly and Ladakh without an assembly.

Jammu and Kashmir is still under Section 144 which was imposed by the Modi government prior to taking the major step in the valley.

Two former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Ministers- Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti- have been kept under detention. Reports claimed Abdullah and Mufti were allowed to offer prayers.
