Extremely pained by Utkal Express derailment: PM Modi

New Delhi, Aug 19 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said he is "extremely pained" by the derailment of the Utkal Express in Muzaffarnagar, which left several killed and many injured.

In a tweet, PM Modi said:

Modi also informed that the Railways Ministry and the UP Government are taking effort to handle the situation.

Several people were killed  and many injured after six coaches of Puri-Haridwar-Kalinga Utkal Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

While official sources put the toll at four, several news channels reported that at least 20 were killed and many trapped inside as the NDRF personnel carried out rescue operation with gas cutters.

The derailment occurred at Khatauli in UP's  Muzaffarnagar area.

Meanwhile, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu announced compensation for the deceased and injured.
