Extremists killed 2593 civilians in Assam in past 15 years: Govt
In a written reply to a query raised by Asom Gana Parishad MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita in the ongoing budget session of the Assam assembly, state Parliamentary Affairs minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said that, from 2001 to the month of May in 2016, a total of 2593 civilians were killed by several extremist group in the state.
“During the period, a total of 46,461 kidnapping cases, 20269 murders, 22223 rape, 122793 theft, 11815 loot, 4881 dacoity cases reported in the state,” Patowary said.
The Assam minister further said that, a total 52,560 people have lost their lives in various crimes during the period in the state.
“Among them, 1922 people died in dowry related cases, while 27489 people died in accidents and 287 students had committed suicide in this period,” the Assam minister said.
On the other hand, 2502 people have lost their lives in similar cases from June 2016 to January 2017.
After the BJP government came to power in the state, a total 4101 kidnapping, 827 murders, 974 loot, 9141 theft, 114 dacoity, 1294 rape cases have been reported in the state.
