Fake currency racket busted, four arrested

Guwahati, June 4 (IBNS): Security forces busted a fake Indian currency note (FICN) racket and arrested four persons in Assam’s West Karbi Anglong district on Tuesday.

Security forces seized Rs 2,000 and Rs 5,00 fake currency notes worth Rs 2.23 lakh in face value, 7.65mm pistol and three rounds live ammunition from them.

According to the reports, based on intelligence inputs, army and Kheroni police in West Karbi Anglong district launched the operation at Mylo Ronghang basti under Kheroni police station and apprehended two persons, identified as Gyan Bahadur Lama and Nikhil Terang, and recovered 100 pieces of Rs 2,000 FICN from them.

The security personnel arrested two other persons identified as Jayanta Singh, Faizul Islam from Doboka area.

Police said the gang had circulated the fake currency notes in the area.

A case has been registered at Kheroni police station.

“We had launched operation at Mylo Ronghang basti area and apprehended two persons and recovered 100 pieces of Rs 2,000 fake currency notes, one 7.65 pistol, three rounds live ammunition in possession from them. During interrogation the two persons revealed that, there were two other persons involved with it and launched operation at Doboka area and arrested two others. We had recovered Rs 500 fake currency notes from them,” a police officer said.
