Imphal, Sep 2 (IBNS): The Imphal police has registered an FIR against former Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh over the alleged financial irregularities, media reports said.

The case is related to the functioning of the Manipur Development Society (MDS).

The FIR which has been registered against Ibobi under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Personal Liabilities Act, 1998, for cheating, criminal conspiracy and breach of trust.

Along with the former CM, the FIR has been lodged against five others.

Out of five, three are former chief secretaries, D.S. Ponia, P.C. Lawmkunga and O. Nabakishore Singh.

The other two are former project director of MDS, Y. Ningthem Singh and administrative officer of MDS, S. Ranjit Singh.

Ibobi was the CM of Manipur for 15 years, from 2002 to 2017.

In 2017 Assembly election, Ibobi, a Congress candidate, defeated Irom Sharmila who fought the election against the former CM after ending her years long fast.

Presently, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is running the government under chief minister N.Biren Singh.
