Five killed, three injured after speedy truck hits them in Assam's Sipajhar

Guwahati: At least five people died and three others were injured after a speeding truck hit them in Assam's Darrang district on Tuesday morning.

The incident took place at Sipajhar College Chowk area while the deceased and injured persons were out on morning walk at Sipajhar area.

The injured persons were rushed to hospital.

The driver of the truck fled from the area following the incident.

A senior police official said one person died on spot while four others succumbed to their injuries at hospital.

"Three critically injured persons were referred to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital," the police official said.
