Bolpur, Feb 21 (UNI) The Bolpur Court in West Bengal on Thursday sentenced former vice-chancellor of Visva Bharati University Dilip Sinha, ex-Registrar Dilip Mukherjee and former mathematics lecturer Mukti Deb to five years' jail term for forgery.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Justice Arabinda Mishra, who had convicted the trio on Wednesday for forgery, on Thursday read out the punishment, and sentenced them to five years of jail each and Rs 1000 fine.

The three had been convicted for anomaly in the appointment of Mukti Deb as a mathematics lecturer in the centrally aided university in 2004.

The prime accused Deb had submitted testimonials of photocopies of her certificates for the job, which were ratified by the then VC and the Registrar.

A case was filed and the CID began investigation during when Sujit Kumar Basu was the VC, and all the certificates turned out to be fake.

All the three have been transferred to jail from the court. However, they said they would move the higher court.
