Govt should make proper food arrangements for migrant labourers: BSP chief Mayawati
Lucknow/UNI: Expressing concern over the issues faced by the migrant labourers in the states of the country including Uttar Pradesh, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Monday said that apart from ensuring food for them, speedy arrangements should be made for their return to homes.
In a tweet, Mayawati said, "Apart from increasing coronavirus testing, the Centre and all state governments should make food available to lakhs of poor migrant labourers or how will they be able to increase their immunity and fight the virus. After all, when will the government warehouses come into use?''
The BSP honcho added, "It would be better if the governments make arrangements to send these people to their homes safely as soon as possible and provide them with some financial assistance immediately. The BSP reiterates this demand."
Notably, the Uttar Pradesh government had decided to bring back the people hailing from the state in a phased manner, who were working outside and were stranded there amidst the lockdown.
According to Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Avanish Kumar Awasthi, about 2,224 migrant labourers have returned from Haryana in 82 buses and they have been quarantined.
