Gujarat: Another accused arrested in LRD paper leak case
Gandhinagar, Apr 7 (UNI) The Anti Terroris Squad (ATS) of Gujarat police in a joint operation with Ahmedabad police crime branch and Delhi police arrested another key accused in the LRD paper leak case.
Police said that so far at least 15 people have been nabbed in this connection.
Based on a technical surveillance Mathur, a state level weight lifter was nabbed. During initial investigation he has accepted that he was provided solved paper of the LRD (police constable) recruitment exam two days before the December 2 exam which was cancelled in the last minute due to expose of the leak. He had to pay Rs one crore for that the two people Vinay Arora and Vinod Chikkara who had given him paper.
Notably, Gujarat police had in January this year nabbed 3 culprits of LRD paper leak case and claimed that paper was taken out from the trash-room of the Karnataka based press. Vinay Arora resident of Sonipat in Haryana, Mahadev Dattatreya Asture and Vinod Bansilal Rathod (both residents of Bidar in Karnataka) were then nabbed by Gujarat ATS and crime branch of Ahmedabad police.
Police had then revealed that Vinay along with a Delhi based former cop Vinod D Chhikara and the two from Bidar along with other members of their gang had stayed in Manipal of Udupi district of Karnataka with a plan to get the paper of a Haryana police exam from a press there. When in the midnight of November 20 and 21 they entered they press they got a discarded paper of Gujarat LRD exam which was thrown in a room for destruction due to some minor error. They took a photo of the paper and came out. There was no CCTV there. They later came to know about the paper and the earlier exam date (December 2)
They later made a deal with Virendra Mathur, a former weightlifter and resident of Karala village in Rohini locality in Delhi who has been nabbed now. Virendra was jailed earlier also in connection with another paper leak case.
There were many others apart from Mathur and Chhikara who were involved in various roles in the case. Police was trying to nab all of them.
Notably the LRD recruitment exam slated for December 2 was cancelled the same day after the information about the the paper leak. It was later re-conducted on January 6 this year. Around 8 lakh aspirants appeared in it.
Among the arrested accused in this case were also a police official and a woman, some aspirants and two conspirators from Mahdya Pradesh and Delhi.
