Gulmarg cable car mishap leaves 7 dead

Srinagar, June 25 (IBNS): A ropeway car dropped to the ground after its cable snapped in Jammu and Kashmir's Gulmarg area on Sunday,leaving seven people dead, media reports said.

The service has been reportedly suspended following the incident.

The victims have been identified as Jayant Andraskar, his wife Manshea Andraskar and their daughters Anagha and Janhvi, reports said.

Their guide was Mukhtar Ahmad Ganai, senior superintendent of police in Baramullah, Imtiyaz Hussain, told Hindustan Times.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah mourned the loss of lives in the incident as he tweeted: "Heart breaking images coming out of #Gulmarg . What a tragic way for a family holiday to end. Can't sympathise enough with the families."

Gulmarg is a town, a hill station, a popular skiing destination and a notified area committee in the Baramula district of the Indianstate of Jammu and Kashmir.
