Jammu: Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday appreciated PM Narendra Modi for not hiding 'his true self'.

“I am liking a lot of things about many leaders. I am from a village and feel proud of it. Even our Prime Minister comes from a village and used to sell tea," Azad said while addressing an address here.

"Although we are political rivals, I appreciate that he doesn’t hide his true self,” he said.

Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party is a key rival of the Congress in the political arena of the country.

The Narendra Modi-led government came to power at the Centre in 2014 by removing Congress which was ruling the nation since 2004 in two consecutive terms.

The former J&K Chief Minister and senior Congress leader also launched a scathing attack on the UT administration and central government alleging that the claims made by the Jammu and Kashmir government are limited to papers.

“There is still no development in Jammu and Kashmir," he said and added that tall claims of development are confined to papers only.

He recalled his tenure as chief minister and said earlier the development works were taken under triple shifts but now not even in an half shit.’

He said that the people of Jammu are being looted in the name of tax and more tax should be on the earnings while in Jammu and Kashmir the earnings have not been increased but people are burdened with tax.

Expressing concerns over business sector, Azad alleged that there is a bad time for business sector in Jammu and Kashmir and said, “The industry here is on the verge of closure.”

Regarding the removal of Art 370 from the state, Azad said that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is as if the police DGP has been demoted to "sipahi".
