Ghaziabad, Oct 8 (IBNS): The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Monday celebrated its 86th anniversary by holding a parade-cum investiture at Hindon Air Force Station in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad, media reports said.

The parade was followed by air display and acrobatics by the Air Force's various aircraft.

The IAF was established on Oct 8, 1932 as the Royal Indian Air Force under the British rule.

Following the end of the British rule and establishment of a Republican country, the name of the air force was changed to IAF.

Greetings:

On the occasion of the 86th anniversary, President Ram Nath Kovind wished all "air warriors".

He tweeted, "On Air Force Day, we proudly honour our air warriors, veterans, and families of the Indian Air Force. They safeguard our skies with courage and commitment. The resilience, tenacity and zeal of our valiant air warriors is a source of pride for every Indian #PresidentKovind"

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said in a tweet, "On Air Force Day today, I congratulate all the personnel & families of Indian Air Force. They are second to none in valor & zeal and to secure our airspace. The vital role of the Air Force in relief work during national calamities like floods is immense. "

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted to say, "A grateful nation salutes our valorous air warriors and their families on Air Force Day. They keep our skies safe and are at the forefront of serving humanity in times of disasters. Proud of the Indian Air Force!"

Congress president Rahul Gandhi tweeted, "On #AirForceDay I salute the brave men and women of the Indian Airforce. Their valour and commitment is an inspiration for all Indians. Jai Hind. "
