If any Bengali has chance to be PM, it's Mamata Banerjee, says Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh

Kolkata, Jan 6 (IBNS): Shocking several Bharatiya Janata Party members, BJP's Bengal chief Dilip Ghosh on Saturday declared that if any Bengali has a chance to become the Prime Minister of India it is state chief minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee.

The statement came as a shocker to the BJP members as both the parties indulge in criticising each other often bitterly most of the time.

Extending birthday wishes to Banerjee, Ghosh said: "On her birthday, I wish her to stay fit as the state's fate depends on her success. If anyone from Bengal has the best chance to become the Prime Minister of India its her."

On being asked if anyone form BJP's Bengal unit stand a chance to become the PM of the country, Ghosh said: "There might be others who can become the PM but it's only after Mamata Banerjee. She has the first chance."

He said now it is time for a Bengali to head the country.

"We couldn't have Jyoti Basu as the first Bengali prime minister since his party did not allow him," he said.

"Pranab Mukherjee has been the first Bengali President and now it's time to have a prime minister from Bengal," Ghosh added.
