National Conference vice-president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said he felt gutted to realize that he will not be able to represent the people following his defeat in the Lok Sabha polls.

"It’s tough watching my party colleagues taking oath in the Lok Sabha today," Omar Abdullah posted on X.

"Such mixed emotions, I’m proud of their victory & the opportunity they’ve got to serve the people of J&K," he said.

"At the same time I’m gutted I won’t be representing the people of North Kashmir. That said, life goes on," Abdullah posted on X.

Giving Omar Abdullah a jolt,  jailed Er Rashid beat him by over two lakh votes in the recently held Indian general polls.

India voted to elect new Parliamentarians during a seven-phased election this year.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government returned to power for a record-equalling third straight term.

Narendra Modi became the second person after former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to become PM for three terms.
