'Impossible to give 10 lakh jobs': Nitish Kumar downplays Tejashwi Yadav's Bihar poll promise

Patna/IBNS: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday downplayed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav's poll promise of 10 lakh government jobs calling it "impossible", though his own ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a similar pledge even with a bigger number, media reports said.

Speaking at a virtual rally, Kumar, who is the Chief Ministerial candidate of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), said as quoted by the media, "That is impossible, they won't get the chance to govern. But for what he (Tejashwi) has said, it will cost the state exchequer ₹ 1.44 lakh crore annually...Should they shelve all other development work?"

However, the BJP in its poll manifesto promised 19 lakh government jobs and free Covid-19 vaccines to all people of the state.

Bihar, one of the largest states in the country, went to the first phase of the poll on Oct 28.

The second and third phases of the election will be held on Nov 3 and 7.

While the NDA is facing a stiff challenge from the Rashtriya Janata Party (RJD) and Congress alliance in the poll, former saffron party ally, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) has gone solo in the electoral battle.
