In rare show of agreement, Nitish 'supports' Modi's demonetisation move
As the Parliament witnessed a stormy start of its Winter Session on Wednesday over the currency ban issue, Kumar hailed the action taken by the government.
"Fake notes will disappear," the Bihar CM was quoted as saying by media reports in his home state.
This was a rare show of support by Kumar to PM Modi.
However, in the national capital, the Rajya Sabha reverberated with a debate on the issue.
Questioning the move of the Centre, senior Congress leader Anand Sharma said this has put the common people into massive trouble, while those really possessing black money have stashed the ill-gotten wealth in Swiss banks.
BSP leader Maywati mocked at BJP leaders for the talks about fighting black money and attending wedding functions, organised by big politicians with big splurges.
Left leader Sitaram Yechury also slammed Modi and used a meme being shared on social media to criticise the currency ban move by the Centre.
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee earlier in the day led her lawmakers along with those of BJP ally Shiv Sena and other parties in a march from Parliament House to the Rashtrapati Bhawan against demonetisaton and said they have urged the custodian of the constitution to talk to the ruling government to end the financial emergency following the currency ban.
After meeting the President, she flanked by leaders of Shiv Sena as well as leaders like Omar Abdullah of Kashmir said they presented their petition to President Pranab Mukherjee against the government's demonetisation move.
Meanwhile, Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal did not take part in the same march owing to the presence of Shiv Sena.
Kejriwal instead announced that he will hold a rally on Thursday in the national capital, against the government's move to demonetise 500 and 1000 Indian Rupee notes.
On Monday, PM Modi had asked the people to keep patience for 50 more days even as they are having to bear with the immediate consequences of demonetisation that has scrapped old Rs. 1000 and Rs. 500 notes.
