New Delhi: India on Saturday 'regretted' the unilateral decision of the Pakistan government to deny overflight clearance for President Ram Nath Kovind's flight saying such clearance are otherwise 'granted routinely'.

"We call upon Pakistan to recognise the futility of such unilateral actions," MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar said in reply to media queries on Pakistan government decision not to allow use of Pakistani airspace for President's flight.

"We regret the decision of the Government of Pakistan to deny overflight clearance for the VVIP special flight which is otherwise granted routinely by any normal country," he said.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan government and Prime Minister Imran Khan have decided "not to grant permission in view of the Indian behaviour" in respect of Jammu and Kashmir issue.

President Ram Nath Kovind is embarking on a tour to Iceland, Switzerland and Slovenia beginning September 9, Monday.
