Indian and Chinese armies to hold Lt Gen level talks tomorrow on LAC stand off

New Delhi/IBNS: Amid reports of military build up by both Indian and Chinese Armies at the Galwan Valley in Ladakh along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the Indian and Chinese army delegations will hold talks on Tuesday, focussing on thinning of military enforcements and easing tensions, said media reports.

This will be the third talk led by senior army officials of both sides since the escalation of border tension in the beginning of May last.

On June 22, a week after the bloody clash at the Galwan Valley, in which 20 Indian soldiers were martyred, Lieutenant Geney Harinder Singh, commander of the Leh based 14 Corps, and Major General Liu Lin, commander of the South Xinjiang military region, had agreed to disengage from the flash points along LAC.

Reports have confirmed that China has not stepped down its military activities in Galwan Valley, Depsang Plains and the Finger area near Pangong Tso.

The June 30 meeting is expected to begin at 10:30 am on the Indian side of LAC while the two previous corps commander level meetings were held at Moldo on Chinese side of LAC, an HT report said.

The Indian side is likely to demand thinning of army deployment on friction points and restoration of status quo ante in strategic areas, said the report.

However, fighter jets, helicopters, tanks, heavy artillery and missiles in the region have been deployed by both the sides, especially after the recent brutal clash in Galwan Valley, reports said.
