Indian Railways to start waiting lists from May 22

New Delhi/IBNS: The Indian Railways on Wednesday informed that it will be starting the provision of waiting lists during tickets booking from May 22.

The changes will come into effect from May 15 booking for journeys beginning from May 22.

However, there will be a cap on the waiting list. For AC 3-Tier, there can be bookings up to 100 on the waiting list, 50 for AC 2-tier, 200 for Sleeper Class, 100 for chair cars and 20 each for First AC and Executive Class

Nearly two months after the service was stopped as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Indian Railways started operating passenger trains partially from Tuesday.

These special trains which have been started presently will have only Air conditioned classes i.e. First, Second & Third AC.

Only online E-Ticketing is done through IRCTC website or through Mobile App.

Passengers with confirmed tickets are currently allowed to board the trains.

"Only confirmed e-tickets shall be booked. Booking of RAC/Waiting list ticket and on board booking by ticket checking staff shall not be permitted. Current booking, tatkal and premium tatkal booking shall not be permitted. No Unreserved tickets (UTS) shall be permitted," a statement said.

Earlier, the Centre ordered for the commencement of special Shramik trains to ferry the migrants home across the country.

"As on 13th May 2020, a total of 642 “Shramik Special” trains have been operationalized from various states across the country. Around 7.90 Lacs passengers have reached their home State," a government statement said on Wednesday.

Trains being run by Railways only after concurrence is given both by the State which is sending the passengers and the State which is receiving them.
