IndiGo cancels 47 flights after planes are grounded

New Delhi, Mar 13 (IBNS): After the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) grounded 11  Airbus 320 Neo planes, aviation major IndiGo airlines on Tuesday cancelled 47 of its flights, reports said.

According to reports, on Monday, a  Lucknow-bound IndiGo flight from Ahmedabad made an emergency landing after its engine suffered failure mid-air.

It later landed safely with186 passengers in Ahmedabad airport, media reports said.

After observing that there have been 69 Pratt and Whitney engine failures as of September 15, and that the number of cases crossed 100, the DGCA grounded nine IndiGo and three GoAir planes with Pratt and Whitney engines yesterday, India Today reported.

Talking to India Today, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha said, "All engines in the series that experienced trouble in India have been grounded. No aircraft with engines facing trouble will take off till the issue is completely resolved."

Indigo cancelled more than 40 flight on Tuesday, a day after the move was made by the DGCA.

IndiGo has 32 Pratt and Whitney engine planes.

Nine of them were grounded on Monday by the DGCA, reports said.

On the otherhand, Goa Air has 13 Pratt and Whitney engine planes.

Three of them were grounded by the DGCA.

Meanwhile, in a statement available with the media, IndiGo said that following the cancellation, affected passengers will be  accommodated on other flights on the network.

GoAir has reportedly cancelled 18 flight on Tuesday.
