| @indiablooms | Jul 15, 2022, at 10:22 pm

Ajmer: Ajmer Dargah cleric Gauhar Chishti, who raised objectionable slogans against former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, was arrested from Hyderabad and brought to Rajasthan late Thursday night, police said on Friday.

He was brought to Christianganj police station here along with the person who allegedly provided him shelter in Hyderabad.

A case was registered against the cleric at Dargah police station but he has been kept at Christianganj police station where a heavy police force also deployed.

On June 17, he delivered 'inflammatory speech' outside the Ajmer Dargah against now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

He was on the run following the registration of the case against him.

Talking to reporters, Superintendent of Police Chunaram Jat said the cleric was arrested from Hyderabad by a five-member team of Ajmer Police. He also thanked Hyderabad Police for their cooperation.

The cop said that the accused was trying to escape in disguise.

The police said he was arrested on a tip-off and that he was hiding there in disguise.

The police will produce him in the court on Friday and seek his remand.
