IS making best use of internet, Parrikar sounds alert

New Delhi, Nov 23 (IBNS) Expressing concern at the "best use of internet technlogy" by Islamic State jihadists, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday sounded an alarm over the possibility of information blackout as a result of disruptive mechanism.

“IS is using internet to ensure lot of recruitment and support. They are one of the best users of internet technologies for promoting their cause,”  Parrikar said while speaking at the seminar DefCom 2015 jointly organised by the Corps of Signals and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

“My worry is information blackout which can result out of various disruptive mechanisms including information corruption on the platforms in use,” he said. 

Calling for development of indigenous technologies to safeguard against disruptions, the minister said that a resurgent India will play an increasingly dominant role in world affairs. He observed that ‘future wars may be cyber wars.
