Srinagar: In a second targeted attack in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, a policeman was injured in a militant strike in Anantnag district, officials said.

They said militants opened fire at a joint mobile checkpoint setup by Police and the Central Reserve Police Force at Bijbehara, Anantnag this afternoon.

"One police personnel got injured who was immediately evacuated to hospital for treatment," a police spokesman told UNI about the incident.

Soon after, a large number of joint forces cordoned the area to trace the attackers. The search operation is underway.

This is the second targeted attack in the last 13 hours in Kashmir ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.

A non local worker was shot dead in Bandipora district during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
