Jammu and Kashmir: Encounter ensues between militants and SF in Anantnag

Srinagar, Mar 30 (UNI) An encounter ensued between militants and security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Anantnag on Saturday, official sources said this morning.

They said on a tip off about the presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at Tangpawa Kokernag in Anantnag on early Saturday morning.

However, when the security forces were sealing all exit points, militants hiding there opened fire with automatic weapons, they said adding the fire was returned ensuing in an encounter.

Additional security forces have been rushed to the area from nearby camps to further tighten the cordon around the village.

A police spokesman confirming exchange of fire between militants and security forces said further details are awaited.
