Jammu and Kashmir: Joint team of security forces recover 8.96-kg narcotics near LoC

Jammu:  The joint team of security forces on Friday recovered 8.96 kilograms of narcotics near the Line of Control in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Senior Superintendent of Police Rajouri, Amritpal Singh told UNI that security forces recovered a consignment of narcotics substance during an operation launched on the LoC in Jhangar area of Nowshera sub-division.

The operation was carried out jointly by Jammu and Kashmir police, Indian Army and BSF on the basis of specific intelligence input.

He said, “There was some specific intelligence input on the basis of which an operation was launched in LoC area of Jhangar in Nowshera sector.”

The operation, Singh said was carried out by police, army units of the area and BSF during which the area was cordoned and extensive searches were conducted.

“During operation, five packets of narcotics weighing 8 kgs, 960 grams were found which have been seized and taken into possession,” he stated and said that a case under relevant sections has been registered and investigation is in progress.

The SSP said that investigation, as well as necessary legal formalities into the matter, are going on and added, “recovery of such huge quantities of narcotics on LoC indicate towards possible smuggling attempt by crossing LoC, which however, has been foiled.”
