J&K CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed mourns Suvra Mukherjee's demise

Srinagar, Aug 18 (IBNS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Tuesday expressed deep sorrow over the demise of President Pranab Mukherjee's wife Suvra Mukherjee.

The Indian First Lady passed away at 10.51 am in New Delhi.

“I convey my condolences to the President over the sad demise of his life’s companion and pray that Almighty gives him courage to bear the irreparable loss,” Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said.

Paying rich tributes, the Chief Minister described Suvra Mukherjee as a creative artist, writer and painter, who lived a very active life and contributed immensely towards promotion of art and literature.

Sayeed conveyed his solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.

Suvra Mukherjee suffered a cardiac arrest on Aug 7 and was admitted to ICU of Army Hospital (R&R) same day.

Suvra Mukherjee was born on Sept 17, 1940 in Jessore and married Pranab Mukherjee on July 13, 1957.

She was a vocalist of Rabindra Sangeet and founded the ‘Geetanjali Troupe’.

Her cremation ceremony will be held at the Lodhi Road Crematorium at10.00 a.m. on Wednesday.
