J&K high schools to reopen tomorrow, situation improved: Administration

Srinagar, Aug 27 (IBNS): The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Tuesday informed media that the situation has improved in the Valley and the high schools will reopen on Wednesday with the restrictions getting eased in several places.

"The situation in Kashmir is getting better with each passing day. As many as 3,037 primary schools and 774 middle schools have been reopened already, and high schools are set to reopen too,"  Director of Education (Jammu and Kashmir) Younis Malik said at a joint press meet held with other officials.

Malik also informed that the administration is trying to improve the attendance of the schools.

Malik said the attendance of the teachers has also improved.

Director of Information & Public Relations (Jammu and Kashmir) Syed Sehrish Asgar, however, noted that the situation was still far from normal.

"Nobody is saying that everything is normal. We are just saying that the number of exchanges has increased. The BSNL is carrying out technical work, and they will ensure that lines are opened in a couple of days," she said.

Kashmir issue

The Indian government scrapped the Article 370 which provided special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

The government bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir with an assembly and Ladakh without an assembly.

Article 35A of the Indian Constitution allowed the Jammu and Kashmir state's legislature to define “permanent residents” of the state and also provided special rights and privileges to those permanent residents.

Article 370 allowed Jammu and Kashmir to have its own constitution, flag and right to handle its own laws except on matters that impact national security.

Since the announcement of the decision, Kashmir is under restrictions as a precautionary measure and to prevent any untoward situation.
