J&K: Pakistan militant prisoner killed in Sopore blast
According to reports, the blast took place inside the police sumo on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway, resulting on spot death of Pakistan prisoner, who was identified as Waheed Noor Khan, of Khyber Pakhtoon Khan Pakistan.
Five policeman were seriously injured in the incident.
They were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
“Khan was arrested in connection with a militancy-related case of 2010 and was scheduled to appear before a Sessions court in Sopore. He was involved in the killings of 5 policemen in Hygam village in 2013. In 2010, he had carried out an attack on then National Conference MLA of Sopore Ashraf Ganaie in which a policeman was killed and two others were injured,” a senior police official told IBNS.
Since May 25, Sopore and its peripheries have seen a surge in target killings as unidentified gunmen shot dead four unarmed civilians in different areas of the town.
On June 9, unidentified gunmen shot dead a pharmacist and an activist of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Sheikh Altaf of Iqbal Nagar Sopore at New Colony Sopore.
Separatists and the family blamed Indian secret agencies for the killing.
Unidentified gunmen on June 12 shot dead a shopkeeper and Hurriyat G activist Khurshid Ahmed Bhat at Bomai Sopore.
