New Delhi/IBNS: Hundreds of students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Monday are staging protests outside the gate of the institute against the new hostel manual which include a hike of hostel fees.

The University Students’ Union is also staging a protest outside the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) building where the University is organising its third annual convocation, reported Hindustan Times.

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal have been invited as chief guests for the convocation event.

The University's hostel committee recently unveiled its new hostel manual.

The manual mentions fixing of curfew hours at 11:30 in JNU hostels, “appropriate dress code” in dining areas and hike in hostel fee structure. The students have been demanding roll back of the hostel manual, reported Hindustan Times.

Security officials are present at AICTE building in Vasant Kunj where the demonstration is currently going on.

According to media reports, a scuffle broke out between students and the police.

“We are here to demand affordable education for all in JNU. We have been trying to have a dialogue with the administration but nobody is meeting us. We are here to make them hear our demands,” Satish Yadav, General Secretary of JNUSU was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
