Karnataka announces night curfew, bans New Year-related parties
Bengaluru/IBNS: The Karnataka government on Sunday announced a night curfew in the state for 10 days starting from Dec 28 between 10 pm and 5 am amid the rapid spread of the Omicron variant.
Along with the night curfew, the state government has also announced some restrictions for New Year related gatherings.
"From December 28 onwards, for about ten days to begin with, we would like to watch by calling a night curfew, invoking Section 144, from night 10 pm to the next morning 5 am," Health Minister K Sudhakar told mediapersons.
Speaking to reporters after a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Sushakar said there is a restriction on functions and gatherings for the New Year.
"There will be no functions, parties in the external premises, especially for those celebrating with DJs and large gatherings, they have been completely banned in Karnataka," he said.
The minister also said that hotels, pubs and restaurants can function with 50 percent of the seating capacity of the premises.
The number of cases of the Omicron variant has risen to 422 in India, with Maharashtra and Delhi reporting the most number of infections.
