Bengaluru, May 28 (IBNS): Karnataka Congress MLA and senior politician Siddu B Nyamagouda has passed away in a road accident near Tulasigeri of the state, media reports said.

Nyamagouda was on his way to his constituency Jamkhandi from Goa when his car had hit a parapet wall while trying to avoid a lorry.

Police told media that the MLA had died instantly after receiving serious injuries.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi tweeted to express condolences. He said: "I am shocked to hear about the demise of Karnataka MLA, Shri Siddu Nyamagouda in a tragic accident. A popular leader, he played a major role in erecting a farmer’s barrage across the Krishna River at Padasalagi. My thoughts & prayers are with his family in their time of grief."

Nayamagouda became the MLA by defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recently concluded Karnataka polls.

After the polls, the Congress had tied up with the Janata Dal (Secular) to form the government.
