Karnataka High Court gives relief to Twitter India chief; quashes UP Police's summon in Ghaziabad case

Bengaluru/IBNS: The Karnataka High Court has quashed the notice served to Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari by UP Police, said media reports.

The UP Police had issued a notice asking Maheshwari to appear for questioning over tweets and the videos shared on the microblogging site about the assault of a Muslim man in Ghaziabad, according to media reports.

Maheshwari had approached the High Court in June seeking relief in the matter.

He had offered to record his statement with the police via video call but the police rebuffed the offer.

The Karnataka High Court ruled Friday that he doesn't need to travel to UP to testify, in a major relief to him, reported NDTV.

The court also said the notice issued to Maheshwari, in which he was accused of intent to riot, promoting enmity and criminal conspiracy, was "malafide" and equalled to "harassment tools" and "arm-twisting", it added.
