Kashmir: Death toll in Shopian rises to 3
Jammu, Jan 31 (IBNS): The death toll in a controversial firing by the Army in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir has increased to three, media reports said.
Rayees Ahmad has been identified as the third deceased.
After the incident, which took place on Jan 27, Jammu and Kashmir police had filed an FIR against two Army men.
The BJP has vehemently protested against the FIR but its ally partner in Jammu and Kashmir, PDP, called it a "logical conclusion".
Two youth, Javaid Ahmed and Suhail Ahmed, were shot dead in Ganowpora village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday.
While speaking in the Assembly, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said that the J&K Police had advised the Indian Army in advance not to enter Ganowpora village.
“Police had advised the Army not to take thre Ganowpora route. The Army would not be demoralized by registration of single FIR. There can be black sheep in the army also,” she told the House.
Ignoring the demand of her alliance members, Mehbooba Mufti said that the FIR lodged into the “unfortunate” Shopian killings would be taken to its logical end.
