Kashmir: Train service suspended on Srinagar-Baramulla track
Srinagar, May 13 (UNI) The train service was on Monday suspended for security reasons between the summer capital, Srinagar and Baramulla in north Kashmir, where massive protests were held against the rape of a 3-year-old girl in Bandipora.
However, train service was normal in south Kashmir. “All trains running on Srinagar-Badgam in the central Kashmir and Baramulla track have been suspended on Monday for security reasons,” a railway official told UNI.
The decision to suspend the train service was taken on the advice of local authorities and police in view of apprehension of trouble following a strike called by a religious-cum-separatist organisation on Monday against rape of the minor girl on May 8 in Sumbal, Bandipora.
A large number of passengers, who had reached to different railway station in north Kashmir and Srinagar, were disappointed after being informed about the suspension of the train service.
However, railway official said they are acting on the advice of local administration since security and safety of the passengers was necessary.
Meanwhile, trains were running normally on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.
